The Mill Self Catering Leitrim - History

ManorhamiltonOriginally a Corn Mill owned and managed by  Lewis Algeo throughout the 19th century. The Mill is situated on the banks of the Scardan River in the townland of Glenboy. Lewis Algeo owned over 600 acres in Glenboy and considered  Glenboy “the seat of the Algeo family".

Following Lewis Algeo‘s death his nephew Noel McCreedy, sold the estate in sections and The Mill was purchased by an earlier generation of the current owners, the Golden family, in the 1940's.  By that time the Mill was in a state of poor repair and remained so until 2006 when it was magnificently and authentically transformed into a luxurious self-catering development in a tempting get-away location. A stay at The Mill offers outstanding natural beauty as the Scardan River and surrounds provide a natural habitat for  trout, salmon, otter, badger, fox and abundant birds, flora and fauna.  The Mill self catering in Leitrim is located within the environs of the Golden's family run farm and depending on the time of year, guests are welcome to experience the daily farming activies that range from hundreds of new arrivals during annual Lambing Season to the daily chore of collecting eggs from the Free-Range Poultry area. At the Stables, the Horses require regular grooming and exercise for Show-Jumping, while tending the Cattle Herd is another daily chore. There are numerous country roads and tracks which lead to spectacular scenery,  historical ring forts and other  archaeologist sites, for example, the “Giant’s Graves” in nearby Tullyskearney.
